Established in 1986 as the Korean Traditional Arts Community, it later became the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Association (KTPAA) in 1990. The organization received formal recognition as a non-profit in 1993 and has been receiving annual grants from the Folk Arts Program of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) since 1998. In 2010, KTPAA opened The New York Korean Performing Arts Center (NYKPAC), which has played an instrumental role in promoting Korean culture and fostering intercultural dialogue in American society.
