This all-star concert and scholarship fundraiser will celebrate the life and career of vocalist Marlene VerPlanck, who passed away last spring. Her many solo recordings featured the American Songbook, and a stellar list of accompanists and collaborators; she also had a major career as a studio recording performer, singing backup vocals for such legends as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and others, and recording familiar jingles such as "Mm'm Good" for Campbell's Soup, "weekends were made for Michelob," and "Nationwide is on your side". Performers on this concert will include some of the New Jersey and New York jazz legends who collaborated with Marlene on her many recordings and live performances, plus representatives from the WP Jazz Studies program who have been the proud recipients of the J. Billy VerPlanck Memorial Scholarship.
